O, the twelfth day of December The season of love, so I’m told When I look all around it seems everyone’s found Someone to warm them from the cold But I’m left alone here outside in the snow With no one to share in good cheer But there’s one thing I know will keep my fire aglow To warm me and keep me from fear Oh Music! (Aah Music!) Be the food of love Sing me a song, keep my heart beating on Once more send me soaring above Oh Music! (Aah Music!) Be the food of love So play on! Play on! While the night is still young For music, be the food of love As the snow coats the ground all around me The children all come out to play Spreading joy unto all, yet in my heart still falls The rain that rains every day No feast on my table this winter No presents lie under my tree But I’m never alone with a song of my own To breathe new life into me Oh Music! (Aah Music!) Be the food of love Sing me a song, keep my heart beating on Once more send me soaring above Oh Music! (Aah Music!) Be the food of love So play on! Play on! While the night is still young For music, be the food of love Gonna turn my amps up to eleven, Gonna set the mic on fire! Bring that music straight from heaven, Reignite my true desire! Exorcise the darkness from my soul Thaw the winter in my heart And with the power of rock n roll Gonna give me a new start! Oh Music Be the food of love Sing me a song, keep my heart beating on Once more send me soaring above… Oh Music! (Aah Music!) Be the food of love Sing me a song, keep my heart beating on Once more send me soaring above Oh Music! (Aah Music!) Be the food of love So play on! Play on! While the night is still young For music, be the food of love Be the food of love, Be the food of love!

O Mistress mine, where are you roaming?
O, stay and hear! Your true love's coming,
That can sing both high and low.
 Trip no further, pretty sweeting;
 Journeys end in lovers meeting,
Every wise man`s son doth know O Mistress, O Mistress, O Mistress Mine! What is love? 'Tis not hereafter.
 Present mirth hath present laughter;
What's to come is still unsure.
In delay there lies no plenty,
Then come kiss me, sweet and twenty.
Youth's a stuff will not endure. O Mistress, O Mistress, O Mistress Mine!

Come away, come away, death, And in sad cypress let me be laid. Fly away, fly away breath, I am slain by a fair cruel maid.   My shroud of white, stuck all with yew, O, prepare it! My part of death, no one so true O, did share it.   Not a flower, not a flower sweet On my black coffin let there be strown. Not a friend, not a friend greet My poor corpse, where my bones shall be thrown.   A thousand thousand sighs to save, Lay me, O, where Sad true lover never find my grave, O, to weep there! To weep there… (Come away, come away, death) A thousand thousand sighs to save, Lay me, O, where Sad true lover never find my grave, O, to weep there! To weep there.

Hey Robin 01:59
Hey Robin, Jolly Robin Tell me how thy lady does Hey Robin, Jolly Robin And thou shalt know of mine My lady is unkind Alas why is she so? She loves another better than me And yet she will say no I find no such doubtlessness I find women true My lady loves me doubtless And will change for no new Hey Robin, Jolly Robin Tell me how thy lady does Hey Robin, Jolly Robin And thou shalt know of mine Thou art happy while that doth last But I say as I find That women’s love is but a blast And turneth with the wind But if thou wilt avoid thy harm, Learn this lesson of me: At others' fires thyself to warm, And let them warm with thee. Hey Robin, Jolly Robin Tell me how thy lady does Hey Robin, Jolly Robin And thou shalt know of mine

I am gone, sir.
 And anon, sir,
I'll be with you again,
 In a trice,
 Like to the old Vice,
 Your need to sustain.
Who with dagger of lath,
In his rage and his wrath,
Cries "Ah ha" to the devil. Like a mad lad,
Pare thy nails, dad. Adieu, good man devil. Good man devil I am gone, sir.
 And anon, sir,
I am gone, gone, gone I am gone, sir.
 And anon, sir,
I am gone, gone, gone So cry "Ah ha" to the devil, "Ah ha" to the devil, "Ah ha" to the devil,
 Like a mad lad,
 Pare thy nails, dad.
Adieu, good man devil. Good man devil I am gone!

O when that I was and a little tiny boy,
With a hey, ho, the wind and the rain,
A foolish thing was but a toy,
For the rain it raineth every day. And when I came to man's estate,
With a hey, ho, the wind and the rain,
'Gainst knaves and thieves men shut their gate,
For the rain it rains, it raineth every day. And when I came, alas, to wive,
With a hey, ho, the wind and the rain,
By swaggering could I never thrive,
For the rain, it raineth every day. And when I came unto my beds,
With a hey, ho, the wind and the rain,
With tosspots still had drunken heads,
For the rain it rains, it raineth every day. Hey, ho, the wind and the rain The rain, it raineth every day A great while ago the world begun,
With a hey, ho, the wind and the rain.
But that's all one, our play is done,
And we will strive to please you every day.

about

Shakespeare goes Glam Rock!

For their 2022 Christmas show, Bingley Little Theatre in Yorkshire are staging a glam rock inspired production of William Shakespeare's classic comedy Twelfth Night, and I had the honour of being asked to create all the original music for the show. Six musical numbers in total, five of which are brand new settings of lyrics taken from Shakespeare's original script, plus one completely original new opening number.

Inspired by the Christmas hits of The Darkness, Slade and Wizzard, alongside other influences such as Def Leppard, Queen, Jim Steinman and Meat Loaf, this is a joyous, exuberant and high-octane celebration of the world of glam rock ranging from heavy metal riffs (O Mistress Mine), soaring power balladry (Come Away Death), and unabashed festive cheer (The Wind and the Rain).

If music be the food of love... rock on!
